Offer U.S. senators your opinion on Graham-Cassidy proposal
September 21, 2017
Another effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act is underway in the U.S. Senate. The Graham-Cassidy proposal shifts funding and decision-making to the states. In many cases, states will receive less funds than they currently do and states can apply for waivers to erode critical protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
Any efforts to use the Congressional reconciliation process, where only a majority vote is needed, must be made by Sept. 30 – the end of the federal fiscal year. Reports are that the proposal has close to the votes needed and a score from the Congressional Budget Office has been requested. A partial score and at least one hearing are expected early next week.
Bipartisan efforts to address health insurance market stabilization have stalled as all efforts of the Republican Party are focused on the Graham-Cassidy proposal. Senate Majority Leader McConnell has confirmed that the proposal will be brought up for a vote on the Senate floor next week.
The votes are very close. You can contact your senator by calling the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and asking for the appropriate office.
